IT security is a top priority

For successful digitization, even small and medium-sized companies must continuously keep up to date with the latest technology and meet ever new requirements, also in terms of IT security and data protection.

Backup Strategy

Prior to all measures to ensure data security, a reliable backup of your data is essential to ensure that all data is available for a smooth recovery in case of an emergency.

WHY IS SECURITY SO IMPORTANT?

PROTECTION AGAINST BUSINESS ESPIONAGE

Attacks from outside do not only mean that important data could be destroyed or that malicious software could paralyze your IT systems, but above all that this data can be passed on and made available to third parties. Reliable protection helps keep your data safe and inaccessible to competitors or other outsiders.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

With the introduction of the GDPR, which has been in force since May 2018, much stricter requirements for the storage and collection of data have replaced the old regulations. The consequences of this are increased penalties and fines which can amount to up to 4% of the total worldwide annual turnover. A secure protection of personal data with current technologies and solutions should therefore be a top priority

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

Last but not least, both data security and IT security naturally contribute to the accessibility and smooth running of your business processes. Some customers may have specific requirements for collaboration and it is certainly valuable for a long-term cooperation to know that your data is in safe hands. Thus, secure IT increases mutual trust and mutual satisfaction.

MEASURES TO INCREASE IT SECURITY

EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF EMPLOYEES

Employees should know how to handle their IT, not only functional aspects are important but also data security and the correct handling of e.g. mails, USB sticks and the mixing of private and business matters, so that the security and confidentiality of company data is guaranteed. The correct handling of passwords and an efficient and well maintained authorization system are important additions. Every employee should only have as many authorizations as he or she needs for the efficient processing of his or her tasks.

Administration

In addition to the training of individual employees, the management and administration of IT must have a good overview of work processes and data. Which data are particularly confidential and which are not? How often are backups created and are they complete and can be restored at any time? Are programs and applications up-to-date? In an emergency, it must be possible to shut down the system as efficiently as possible in the event of problems and to reinstall it so that company data is protected and processes can be up and running again as quickly as possible.

Management

Finally, risk analyses and assessments by independent third parties should be consulted at regular intervals. A so-called "penetration test" could test from outside how secure the IT systems really are and how well employees react to a possible attack scenario.
